Albuera, May 1811

Hi All,

Apologies for the long time since the last posting- have had some troubles but now can get back to posting and have several games to put on!  Here's some pictures of a large game put on from the Napoleonic era on an 8x6 foot board.  The General de Brigade rules were used, and the scenario was adapted from historical sources.

The French infantry mass to attack the Allied Spanish and British flank...

...supported by the cavalry as their Allied opponents rush to redeploy.
Skirmishers from both sides screen the main bodies.

A snapshot of the club's scenery used for the town of Albuera, and a closeup of some British redcoats.

The Spanish prepare to defend the ridge against the French steamroller...

The cavalry battle would swing wildly both ways throughout the course of the game, both sides suffering with some appalling dice rolls.

The French attack eventually pushed the Spanish and Allies off the ridgeline, but fortunately for the Allies they could not sweep on before a second line had been established with some fresh British units.
In the end, the luck was not to be with the French this day.  Repeated assaults against the Allied lines were repulsed by some very effective volleys (and extraordinary dice rolls again).  Even the appearance of the Polich Lancers out of nowhere was blunted by dogged bad luck on the french part, and eventually they had to concede that the attack was not going to work.  I've loaded on some further photos from the duration of the battle, and hope that you like them!

See you soon!
